U Mad [Feat. Kanye West] | Vic Mensa

The protege and the mentor have teamed up once again (might we say, as predicted by EWM last month). "U Mad" has all the qualities of past Vic hits (see: Wimme Nah) with a very special Kanye stamp of approval. So, naturally, it's great - but nothing special. We must say the horns are on point, but has generally the same driving force behind it as past Vic songs. Maybe we're looking for something that's not there, or maybe we're asking too much of the dude. But we really want to see some more substance in the songs, more depth, more dimensions. Don't get us wrong - we will certainly be blasting this at pre-drinks, jumping along...but for regular listening pleasure?

It will probably make a Kanye-sized bump when swept under the rug.
