Last year, Mick Jenkins brought us the album The Water[s], which in turn catapulted him onto the scene and our radar - the album was actually one of our favourites from 2014. After seeing him throw down at SXSW, we’ve been anxiously waiting for a leak off his new project, Wave[s].
This morning we received a gift from god, A PREMIERE in the form of Alchemy. This track is dark. Actually, it’s very dark. While Mick sounds like he could have recorded the entire The Water[s] album sitting down, he must have recorded this one in a blind rage. He spits FIRE on this track that we haven’t heard from him before. Produced by Lee Bannon, who earned his stripes producing Joey Bada$$’s Summer Knights and B4.DA.$$, this beat is much heavier and more EDM influenced than we’ve heard from either Bannon or Mick.
Enjoy this tune – although you should warn everyone around you that you might end up considerably more hyped up afterwards.
P.S – every release off Wave[s] features a unique 30x30 painting from Hayveyah McGowan, influenced by how she felt while listening to the corresponding song.
