1999 was a year full of Tamagotchis, Blockbuster VHS rentals, inflatable furniture, and an impeccably wide range of musical classics including but not limited to:
Crazy | Britney Spears
Last Kiss | Pearl Jam
Man, I Feel Like A Woman | Shania Twain
Waiting For Tonight | J.Lo
What's My Age Again & All The Small Things | Blink-182
I Want It That Way | Backstreet Boys
My Name Is | Eminem
Bills, Bills, Bills | Destiny's Child
So the fact that Pat Grossi, aka Active Child, has entitled a song "1999" is bold. That is a whole lotta shiz to live up to. Like, c'mon. DUNKAROOS were at their peak. That being said, despite "1999" being a TBT only in terms of it's name, it can claim the awesomeness that 1999 embodies. A much more sullen, vulnerable, airy vibe than it's poppy time-travelling counterpart, "1999" has us eagerly awaiting Active Child's upcoming album, Mercy, set to release June 16. Fun fact: "1999" was written almost exclusively on the piano and....the harp.
