Firstly, let me quote the line printed on my favourite t-shirt, "Support Southern Rock". Got it? Good. Now, "Whipping Post" written in 1969 by the song writing half of the duo, Gregg Allman, has come to gain status as a blues rock anthem. Written about a woman that everyone would likely hate, and a metaphorical whipping post, he describes his futile sorrow about the situation. And honestly, I don't even know where I would begin if i were to try and describe the musicianship present in the song. The guitar is obviously the focal point of the song and inarugably so.
We were lucky enough to catch a couple minutes of a Gregg Allman performance this past year at the Byron Bay Blues Festival, and even at 66 he's still got it. LOVE that slide guitar.
#supportsouthernrock everyone.
