Today's Modern Boxes | Thom Yorke
Industry vet Thom Yorke released his new album Today's Modern Boxes via BitTorrent last Friday. Last week, after posting a couple very ominous photos on his twitter insinuating that something was brewing - wham! - another sneak attack album release. His business startegy has resulted in some pretty major media hype, selling the album for $6 as a BitTorrent Bundle. The concept of actually selling files is pretty new phenomenon for BitTorrent, but from an industry standpoint it's a pretty innovative way for musicians to make a dolla and market their work.
Hypebot reported that, "If a significant level of sales occur, which I think is likely for releases like Yorke's, publishers will eventually be able to adopt these bundles for all sorts of digital content including more album releases. And with BitTorrent seeking or planning to seek RIAA certification those sales can count on the charts."
The album itself is actually really good too! However, it's nothing we haven't heard from Yorke before. Slow electronic rhythms underneath some melancholy lyrics. We've gravitated towards the tracks "Guess Again!" and "Truth Ray". Give it a listen folks.
